Our First Reader

This week was very exciting because we had our 1st student read a book to the class! They love sitting in the teacher's chair and holding their book like a teacher to share with the class.

So Much Fun!

This week in centers... Fridays are free choice centers. Each child was able to paint on the easel for the 1st time and could paint anything they wanted!

It's so neat to hear the kids retell stories in the reading center. After we read a book whole group, we always put it in the reading center for the kids to retell and look at the pictures a little closer.

We have been completing different unifix cubes activities in the math center. This week they had to create different objects (a tree, giraffe, slide) using examples.

I'm so happy to see how much the kids like the fine motor center.

In the writing center, the kids used "The Teacher Board" for the 1st time to practice writing their name and their friends' names. We have a helper chart with a boy/girl page that list each child's name with a picture of the child beside their name. They have a fun time finding their friends' names and writing them.

We completed more cut and paste activities in the art center to practice using glue and scissors.

We worked together with our center partner to put the ABCs in order.

Who can build the tallest tower? This was a fun game of rolling the dice and using unifix cubes.

Fruit Loops!

With this snack activity, we read the book Andy and then they had to find the 1st letter in their name at a table. They covered their letter with fruit loops, then were able to dig in.

Yes!! I broke the rules and stood on the bookcase to take these shots. The kids thought it was funny! I thought it was a miracle they didn't break!

After reading a book about how each child is special and unique, they got to decorate a sugar cookie any way they wanted to. We had sprinkles everywhere, but the kids had a fun time eating them and seeing each other's "work of art".

Center Time Fun!

Check out what we did in centers during our 1st week of school! Some of us like to meditate during rest time.

Check out these busy writers in the writing center. They were tracing the upper case letters.

The fine motor center was a big hit! We enjoyed creating pictures using different manipulatives.

What a great project to do using unifix cubes in the math center.

We had so much fun in the science center working with colored rice.

We really thought it was cool to work with big floor pattern blocks.

Treasure Hunt!

On our 1st day of school, we went on a treasure hunt! A pirate left us clues around the school to help him find his treasure. Our 1st clue was on the playground.

During our hunt, we stopped by music, art, library,the office, PE, and the school nurse. It was a sneaky little pirate!

We were excited to find the treasure in our classroom! It was a delicious cup of pudding with dirt(Oreos) and a buried treasure inside (a swirl M&M).

Snack Time Fun!

Each day this week, the students have had fun making a special snack to go along with a book we read. After reading Little Blue and Little Yellow we made Little Blue and Little Yellow icing covered cookies. They mashed their Little Yellow cookie with their Little Blue to make Little Green.

Yummy!! Little Green!

They took their decorating very seriously.

I think licking their fingers was their favorite part.

Recess!

Recess is of course the students favorite part of the day. We have had to make a list every morning of what we're doing that day so they know when recess and lunch are! This is not my favorite piece of playground equipment. I'm so afraid they're going to slip and fall on another child. Well...on Tuesday, the 2nd day of school it was removed from the playground because a child slipped on in, busted his forehead and had to have 3 stitches.

The "bucket" sandbox is new to our playground. So far, the kids are doing a great job of keeping the sand in the sandbox.

Everyone has attempted the monkey bars. It's the "cool" thing to do!
