Choo-Choo

We had fun learning how to use our word building sticks.
Our marble work's designs continue to get better.

In home living, we've had fun decorating for Christmas.

We had a great time learning to play an addition and subtraction game.

Their favorite center this week was blocks because they were able to build a train track.

A Nutty Week!

This week we continued our unit of study on fall.
In science, we estimated how many nuts each container would hold.

Dramatic arts has changed to the camping center.

After estimating, we counted the nuts to find out how many nuts each container actually held.

We wrote a descriptive story about our field trip.

In math, we built scarecrows using pattern blocks and then recreated the scarecrow using paper pattern blocks.

In the writing center, we practiced writing high frequency words.

A Day on the Farm!

In October we enjoyed our 1st field trip to West Oak Farm Days! It was a blustery, chilly, fall day, but we still had fun! The kids loved finding their way through the maze and we didn't loose anyone!
We brushed the cows.

I was happy that no one lost a finger to the horse!

It was a sight watching us load and unload from the hayride. I thought the "van" seat was comical for a hayride! There's a 1st for everything.

We enjoyed playing games at several of the centers.

Biscuits and Apple Butter

The kids loved peeling and cutting apples to make apple butter.

We also made homemade butter to go with our homemade biscuits!

Pumpkin Carving

We had fun voting on a face for our pumpkin and then carved it.

They thought the roasted pumpkin seeds were delicious!

Spooky Fun!

What a cute bunch!

Oh yeah..we spilled the seeds, pumpkin guts, my drink, you name it, we made a mess of it! Mrs. Robinson was impressed when she returned from buying snacks, that we actually finished carving the pumpkin. (I was too!)

With a rainy week and no recess, we made the best of it and played Everyday Math Games on the Smartboard. The kids had so much fun!

They are a competitive group! Can you see the 2 teams?

There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Number...we sang the song and pointed to the numbers as we sang!

measuring items using bats and reading about them

building a sentence about what's under our bed

creating our first candy graph

They loved playing the Chicken Game! They had to sort chicken eggs by color. The first person to collect a dozen eggs of the same color had to stand up and cluck like a chicken!

I just love seeing the kids use a dictionary to find words!

Spin a Number game...we played it on the Smartboard and then could play it in the math center.

This was the first week of using the wooden blocks. We usually don't bring out the wooden blocks until January, but this class truly loves to build! As you can see, they were ready for them.
