Mapping America!

We started our week by completing our unit of study on Presidents and American Symbols. We then started learning about maps. We created maps and read many types of maps. To celebrate the end of our study on America, we baked an American Flag cake.
We discussed how you have to read the directions and follow the recipe if you want what your cooking to turn out correctly.

We discussed how you have to measure and tell time when cooking.

We thought it was neat that our cake started off as a liquid and then baked into a solid.

Yum! Yum! It was beautiful and delicious!

In the games and puzzles center, we recreated a maps of a living room. We used doll house furniture.

learning to tell time to the hour and half-hour
We listened to a story about telling time, put together a clock puzzle, and then make our own clock to practice at home!

We have had a fun time working in our town center. One day I overheard there was a robot loose in the city and taking it over.

In math we added 50 star stickers to our flag. We put them on in 5 groups of 10 and then practiced counting by 10s.

We're Proud to be Americans!

This past week we studied American Symbols and Presidents. We love reading our morning journal responses to the class.

We painted the American flag in art and added 50 stars to it in the math center.

To help us with learning the coins and their value, we pretend to buy items. It has become one of our favorite games in the math center.

This week at Mrs. Robinson's table we created a solider by following directions. We were given different size squares and rectangles and had to cut them to create parts of our solider. We then "built" a sentence about the solider.

We are getting better at building log cabins.

We were lucky to have parent volunteers to teach us how to play GEO Safari.
They really took buying the items very seriously. I had to remind them they were not taking the items home, but it didn't matter!

A Week of Love!

It always seems like 4 day weeks are the hardest! The week of Valentine's is always wild, even more than Christmas, but the kids still worked hard and had a fun week!I think all the sugar was hitting them in these pictures! They enjoyed a delicious and tasty Valentine's Day Party. Their favorite part was opening their Valentine's Day mailboxes and reading all their Valentines. Thank you parents for all your donations for our party. I did hear it was a success! (I was home sick on Thursday and missed all the celebrating!)

Tracing hearts in the art center

We learned to paint and draw hearts.

We used candy hearts to estimate and find the area of 2 different size hearts. We also found out the fastest way to count a large number of objects is to group them in groups of 10!

This group has really enjoyed building with straws in the block center. Their designs are getting bigger and better each week!

These are our word sticks. We use them to build rhyming words. It helps us see that only the beginning letter(s) changes.

This project took all week! We had to match the hearts. One half had a letter, the other half had a picture. We had to match the beginning letter to the picture and spell all the words to match each picture.

Lake Front Property!

Did you know that kindergarten has lake front property? It use to be our playground!

Icy Science

I just love working with students on science investigations. It's so fun to hear them explain their answers. We measured and recorded the temperature of ice water and water with no ice. We also predicted and observed how fast different types of ice would melt.

Groundhogs!

We had a fun week studying groundhogs and shadows. Performing a shadow puppet show
creating shadow puppets

The Vet's Office is open for business!
